Recordings

Reflections On The Middle Ages
A collection of songs written by Acie that are meant to be of special interest to the baby boomer generation. He uses melodies, chords, rhythm patterns, and topics meant to appeal to middle-aged people. Some of these topics include returning war heroes, Pope John, Vietnam, Bobby Sands, epilepsy, parental senility, homelessness, terrorism, ANWR, depression, and of course, some love stuff. There is also a 4-part tribute to poet/musician Dave Carter called The Coyote.

The Songs and Ballads of Hattie Mae Tyler Cargill

It is very infrequent that the Folk Legacy label puts up a cd for a Grammy nomination which they did with this cd.. Has wonderful singing by Debra Cowan and Susan Ruth Brown. Guitar work by Kristina Olsen. Very unusual and authentic Kentucky phrasings, tunings, scales and techniques.

In The Willow Garden

This cd is the first release by the TradFolk label in Chicago. Acie plays Tyler drop-thumb banjo throughout. He is considered the master of this style and has been recorded for the Library of Congress playing it. Also features excellent vocals by Susan Ruth Brown, John Wright, Sally Anne Merrill, Elma Tuomisalo, Margaret Tyler, Cora Thiele, and The Stones in Shoes Band from old Kentucky do the instrumentals. Dance tunes, ballads, songs from the Tyler family.

Back To School

This is a somewhat controversial collection of songs written by Acie in reaction to the 911 terrorist attacks. The themes are directed at issues facing college age people such as the environment, vegetarianism, vengeance for the terrorism, anorexia, cyber love, crack, suicide, celibacy, STDs, and also the joy of a first date, the exhileration of new love, and paranoia associated with one-way love. Recorded with brother, Leo Cargill. Both sing and play guitar. You must be 18 years old to purchase this cd.

A Family Gathering

This music was recorded by Acie's father at a family gathering at a Kentucky Church around the late 50's. Acie is a boy here playing the old drop-thumb style which is very melodic and uses the old scales and tunes. The gathering included many older generation family members including some of the Tylers and the Cargills. Hattie had married Asa Cargill who was the fiddler in the 1930's for the Notorious Cargill Brother's string band, all who are now deceased.

Country Songs

A collection of original songs written by Acie and recorded by a variety of musicians and singers from Northwest Indiana and Chicago. Includes Cash Brothers, Eric Lambert, Susan Ruth Brown, Jim and Mary Grosso, Vicki Biddle, DJ & Pat, Fran Adams, Cindy Palmer, Jeff Lutrell, Rev Jerry Vernon

Live At The Lick Skillet Music Barn

In this recording, Acie plays bluegrass standards on guitar, mandolin, and fiddle. He is accompanied by a master of the 5-string banjo, Bill Jackson of Hazel Green, Alabama. Bill played for many years with the legendary Tennessee Railsplitters and Acie played as a sideman for 20 years with former Railsplitters lead singer, Harold Lamb and learned many fiddle tunes from Artie P Crowder. The Lick Skillet Music Barn is located in Hazel Green, Alabama and is known for it's fine stage, dance floor, and enthusiastic crowds.

Old-Time Music for the New Millennium

These are mostly "field-type" recordings, of traditional musicians mostly from the Northwest Indiana area. Kristina Olsen picks some jazz, has Debra Cowan's wildly popular "Blackwaterside", Flintlock's amazing St. Louis Blues with Kenny Stone and local favorites Harold Lamb, Jim Thomas, Susan Ruth Brown, Ellen and John Wright, Howard Lee Noel, Mary Minton, Pat Sowash, John Haaz, and of course, Acie. This cd includes his tribute to his "Dear Mother."
