How the fun began . . .
Simply Pickin' is a bluegrass group
of people who simply love bluegrass music and even more, enjoy
pickin' it! Whether they are pickin' it alone at their homes,
or get together one evening for some pickin', or in front of
many people who share the same love for bluegrass.
The group actually formed out of
the need for a group to put on a Jam / Show in Shelbyville. Jack,
Kenny, and Phil were traveling with other friends to the Metamora
area to jam there weekly. They knew that there were enough people
in the Shelby County area to have a jam / show of their own so
they began "THE JAM" but needed a group to do it.
So they formed their own.
They began THE JAM in May of '03
by renting a room in a Christian Bookstore in Shelbyville. Back
then, Jack, Kenny, and Phil made up the group Simply Pickin'
and with the help of local jammers coming to the show the audience
really enjoyed themselves. As attendance rose into the 80's and
more and more bands and jammers began showing up they needed
a larger area for the show. So they began renting a church hall
in Shelbyville. At this time they added Donna and Carly to the
group for the vocals and harmonies. Attendance rose even more,
over 120, and they are currently renting a building at the Shelby
County Fairgrounds. They have now added Larry to do the fiddlin'
and mandolin pickin'.
They enjoy the traditional style
of bluegrass music of groups like Flatt and Scruggs, Ricky Skaggs,
and Emmy Lou Harris, as well as the newer music of groups like
Rhonda Vincent, Ronnie Bowman, Doyle Lawson, and many more.
They do an even mixture of Bluegrass
and Bluegrass Gospel. If you are interested in having them entertain
