What's a gal
from Ohio doing starting a website about Indiana Bluegrass?
Good question. Easy to
explain. Meet my maternal great grandfather, Henry Good. He and
his brother and family lived around the turn of the century in
Monroeville, Indiana. Most of my family lives in the Ft. Wayne
area and in and around Monroeville, still. Which sits RIGHT on
the border of Ohio, and Van Wert County, where all my father's
family lives and has it's roots. I live in Toledo, Ohio, which
borders Michigan, where I grew up and is a stone's throw from
Indiana. I've grown up in the tri-state area and know it well.

My great Grandfather
was a skilled musician yet he favored the fiddle, seen here held
by his brother. They played barn dances all over the place and
were quite well known apparently. Before my grandmother passed
away, she gave me his fiddle. It's in rough shape, but it's a
true family heirloom and I'm sure that I get my love of bluegrass
from his roots.
My Grandmother was
great organ player, she thrilled the bowling alleys of Ft. Wayne
with her amazing tunes, all learned by ear. Music runs in my
family. I play the banjo and it's my bass that is featured above
in the logo. Just recently my own daughter has taken up the fiddle
and I think my great Grandpa would love it if she had his fiddle
some day.

Kind Words for BuckeyeBluegrass.com,
Indiana Bluegrass.com's sister site
As a band trying to
break onto the national bluegrass scene, it is tough to do without
a promoter with all the connections and know how to get bookings
at larger venues with a small name. As soon as Buckeye Bluegrass
contacted me and told me what Sherri had in mind as far as helping
bands, festivals, radio and all around promotions of bluegrass
in the state of Ohio. I was sold!
Buckeye Bluegrass.com
is the best tool in promoting bluegrass in Ohio that I have seen
on the internet. It is an honor to be a part of something on
the ground level and with the enthusiasm behind this great idea
I think we can all benefit from it and will see it grow into
something huge in time to come.
The Just Bluegrass Band
Blackwater Run would
like to commend Sherri Chekal for her time and devotion to Bluegrass
Music. Her website is great for bands like us, who have day jobs.
In the short time Buckeyebluegrass.com has been up and running,
we have two bookings in the works for 2005. We have had many
hits on our site, www.blackwaterrun.com, after seeing us on Buckeyebluegrass.
Keep up the great work Sherri!

Buckey Blugrass is
'the' place for Ohio bluegrass on the web! They've helped us
get the word out about our band, Timber Wolves, including a great
Band Page that we use to keep in touch with our fans.

BuckeyeBluegrass.com
is a revolutionary way for the Ohio bluegrass community to gather,
communicate, promote and support each other. It has brought Appalachian
Highway state wide recognition and maybe more.

Being a promoter myself,
I know first hand how hard it is find new area bluegrass talent.
Also being a performer I know how hard it is to get jobs without
a little help from somebody. Buckeye Bluegrass is just the little
help that promoters and performers need. Jimmy Skinner, promoter
for Bluegrass Junction, has always used Ohio bands and has called
me countless amount of times asking for information on local
bands down
here in my area. He called me the other day, and told me how
nice it was to have a site where he could go and find good Ohio
bands without calling all over the state. Sherri, I hope your
head is the size of a pumpkin, because you have earned it girl,
keep up the good work.
